Proposed Changes to the Religious Corporations Act
(Connecticut)

The stated purpose of Bill 1098 is to "provide for the investigation of the misappropriation of funds by religious corporations," and is clearly unconstitutional.

The AGC has proposed hearings on Bill 1098 be postponed pending an examination by the Attorney General on the constitutionality of the existing law that sets different rules for five specifically named separate Christian denominations, that a new law be created that eliminates the references to all of the religions in the state statutes and retain the law, Section 33-264 on the formation of religious corporations.
