"Friends, why are you doing
this? We are mortals just like
you, and we bring you good news, that you should turn from these
worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven and the
earth and the sea and all that is in them. In past generations
he allowed all the nations to follow their own ways; yet he has
not left himself without a witness in doing good--giving you
rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, and filling you with
food and your hearts with joy." Acts

Dec 05 Latimer's
application for day parole denied, AGC elder appalled
Robert Latimer, a good man currently serving a life sentence for
killing his
severely disabled 12-year-old daughter in 1993, has been denied day
parole. Latimer, who began serving his sentence in January 2001, will
be eligible to re-apply for day parole in two years. In a 2006
interview with The Canadian Press, Latimer said he had no regrets about
what he did to his daughter. "The law is a very stupid thing when it
comes to trying to sort these
things out," he said. "They don't have any realistic appreciation of
what is going on."

Now the whole group of those who
believed were of one heart
and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any
possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. With
great power the apostles gave their testimony to the
resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them
all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as
owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what
was sold. They laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was
distributed to each as any had need.

Dec 2007 Kenyan bishop urges
restraint and
positive attitude
Bishop John Elias of the East African AGC Conference called for a calm
attitude to the outcome of the elections urging restraint on the part
of Kenya police and civil disobedience by those contesting the results.
In a short statement he also said Kenyans should ignore the
announcement from the U.S White House on the legitimacy of the vote as
a classic case of the "pot calling the kettle black".
A team of observers from the European Union said the Electoral
Commission of Kenya (ECK) had failed to ensure the credibility of the
poll.
The AGC, while not
legally disputing the result, believes that new elections must be
held under the supervision of the international community with full and
unhindered access under protection of U.N. troops.
A formal AGC
Statement on supervised elections for U.N. member states will be
released in early January, 2008. It will suggest that under certain
clear conditions the United Nations, in association with other
bodies, ensures a free, fair and open electoral process.

Jan 2008 Australian AGC
generally supports government Internet plan
The good Christians in Australia restrained approval for the tough new rules to protect
children from online
pornography and violence.
The new Labor government wants internet service providers to filter
content to ensure households and schools do not receive "inappropriate"
material.
Good Christians have expressed differences with government policy:
1. Australians wanting unfettered
access to the web will have to contact
their supplier to opt out of the new regime.
The AGC feels this
should be reversed. The current measure penalizes all Australians in a country where
connection speeds are often
below international standards. The AGC believes good parents will
opt in.
2.
The government is set to compile a list of unsuitable sites, although
at this stage it is unclear what will be deemed unsuitable.
The AGC questions
the transparency of the selection and oversight process. In a liberal
democracy it is unacceptable to have an unseen, arbitrary decision
making process and will ask Telecommunications
minister Stephen Conroy to do more to educate parents.
